New York City Council Member Chi Ossé on Friday said he will not longer run against House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries in the June 2026 primary election, Politico reported.

In a statement, Ossé, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, said he’ll withdraw his bid after not receiving backing from the political group, the news site said.

“Exploring the possibility of this run was important,” Ossé said in a statement. “As committed, I will not be launching this campaign without the support of the DSA, and so the exploration process has concluded.”

The DSA declined to back the council member’s run, and Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani also noted his lack of support for Ossé.
