Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso launched the second annual Community Baby Shower Fund, making $50,000 available to local nonprofits planning events for new and expecting parents. Eligible organizations can apply for up to $5,000 in reimbursable, non-personnel expenses for baby showers hosted before May 31, 2026.
The initiative is part of Reynoso’s maternal health agenda, which aims to improve outcomes in neighborhoods with historically high rates of maternal mortality and morbidity.
The first round of the fund, announced in July 2024, awarded 10 nonprofits serving neighborhoods including Brownsville, Bushwick, Bed-Stuy, Canarsie and Sunset Park. Events funded through the program offered workshops, baby supplies, and connections to local resources. Several organizations also provided education on postpartum care and parenting.
“It was incredible to see the first annual Community Baby Shower Fund in action. Across the borough, community members came together to celebrate and uplift families welcoming our newest Brooklynites into the world,” Reynoso said.
The fund is available to Brooklyn-based 501(c)(3) nonprofits with a record of serving prenatal and postnatal populations. Applicants must match the requested funding amount and host the baby shower in one of the program’s target neighborhoods. Funding will be awarded on a reimbursement basis and applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the fund is depleted.
The application and additional information are available here. Required materials include the organization’s 501(c)(3) letter of determination, most recent financial statement or IRS Form 990 and a detailed project budget.
Priority will be given to proposals in neighborhoods such as Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brownsville, Bushwick, Canarsie, Coney Island, Crown Heights, East Flatbush, East New York, Flatbush, Midwood and Sunset Park.
