A Brooklyn Catholic church basketball commissioner was arrested on Thursday after allegedly paying teenage boys to preform on pornographic videos, according to federal authorities.
Michael Jafferakos, who worked for Our Lady of Grace Gravesend Athletic Association, was arrested by Homeland Security agents at his home in Brooklyn where agents seized at least nine electronic devices, one of which had hundreds of images and videos containing child sexual abuse material that he then sold to another individual named "Tony" over Telegram, according to the federal criminal complaint.
Jafferakos told federal authorities that he had instructed a 14-year-old boy to engage in sexually explicit conduct during the week of Sept. 22 after "Tony" saw the boy's image on the program's Instagram account, the complaint said.
Jafferakos told authorities that "Tony" had said he would pay for the sexually explicit images by purchasing the victim an electronic bicycle.
Authorities found videos of the victim masturbating and displaying his genitals on Jafferakos' phone, according to the complaint. There was another video of the defendant massaging the victim that appears to have been filmed in the basement of the church building, authorities said.
The complaint also noted that there was another victim from Oconomowoc, WI.
"Considering the arrest and charges brought against Michael Jafferakos, he has been suspended immediately from any involvement with the Our Lady of Grace Gravesend Athletic Association, and all program and facility access has been revoked," the Diocese of Brooklyn said in a statement.
The Diocese said it will not be commenting further on this matter out of regard for the legal process and the individuals involved.
