Close allies of ex-New York City Mayor Eric Adams were indicted and had their homes raided by law enforcement officials in two separate federal probes on Wednesday.

Frank Carone, former chief of staff to Adams, was indicted by federal prosecutors in Brooklyn for taking bribes by two individuals who ran an immigrant homeless shelter, according to the United States Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of New York. Frank Carone, along with two other defendants and his brother Anthony Carone, was charged with fraud, bribery, money laundering, obstruction of justice, and tax fraud.

The Carone brothers allegedly took $120,000 of bribe payments from two individuals who sought a city contract to run a migrant shelter in Long Island City Queens, according to prosecutors.

After receiving the alleged bribes, neither Frank or Anthony Carone reported their income from the criminal scheme to the IRS in their initial 2022 tax filings, prosecutors said. Nor did Frank Carone report this outside income to the NYC Conflicts of Interest Board as required. In 2025, however, after learning there was a federal investigation into his finances, Anthony Carone amended his 2022 personal and law firm tax filings to declare as income the client fees he received as part of his law firm, according to prosecutors.

“As alleged in the indictment, the defendants exploited the unprecedented migrant crisis in New York City for their own personal gain,” First Assistant United States
Attorney Considine said in a statement. “The defendants engaged in a bribery scheme to secure a migrant shelter contract worth millions of dollars from a city agency funded in part by billions of federal dollars. Frank Carone and his brother Anthony Carone are also charged with evading taxes on the proceeds of that scheme. This case demonstrates the Office’s commitment to protecting taxpayer dollars, and holding accountable those who misuse public funds for private gain.”

Meanwhile, officers from the New York City Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided the homes of several high-ranking former and current NYPD officers, all of whom were close to Adams, according to the New York Daily News.

Former NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey and former NYPD Deputy Commissioner Tarik Sheppard were among those raided by a joint FBI and NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau task force, the newspaper reported.

Investigators also raided the home of NYPD Assistant Chief Jimmy McCarthy, the head of Patrol Borough Manhattan South, the Daily News said.
