Seven police cars parked in Brooklyn were discovered with their tires slashed on Monday, according to the New York City Police Department.
The vandalized NYPD vehicles were discovered at about 4:30pm in front of 397 Coney Island Avenue in Kensington, according to a NYPD spokesperson.
The police station at the Parade Grounds is used by the Strategic Response Group, a unit formed in 2015 that responds to larger emergencies and threats that normal patrol units are not equipped to handle, the New York Daily News said.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he wants to disband the unit, after the it was criticized for using a practice called "kettling" to control a large crowd during a Black Lives Matter protest in the city in 2020, amongst other things.
No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing, the spokesperson said.
