The Farragut Stakeholders Group hosted its 3rd Annual Holiday Tree Lighting at the Farragut Houses on Monday, continuing a cherished tradition that has become a highlight of the holiday season for residents. Now in its third year, the event drew community members together despite frigid temperatures only making it into the mid-20s F.
Farragut’s own DJ Roy Boy set the festive tone with holiday music as families enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies provided by Brooklyn Roasting Company. The evening began with welcoming greetings from the Farragut Stakeholders Group, followed by a performance from the student choir of P.S. 307. The program concluded with joyful caroling by The Daughters of the King from The Church of the Open Door.
"Despite the cold temperatures, it was beautiful to see the community come out and enjoy the festivities," said Latrel Mosso, a leader of the Farragut Stakeholders Group. "The beautifully draped tree brought smiles to everyone, both those who gathered in person and those watching from their windows. The icing on the cake was being serenaded by carolers, filling the air with joy and holiday cheer.”
Children and adults alike lined up at DJ Collective’s photo booth, to capture Farragut Stakeholders–branded photos with family and friends. Children visited the Brooklyn Book Bodega’s tables, where they selected brand-new books to take home. In keeping with tradition, Santa Claus made a special appearance, posing for selfies and videos with excited children and families.
The group thanked Content Lens and Remi Amole for producing the event for the community, and Greenpoint Trees for the holiday tree.
The celebration was honored by the presence of New York State Attorney General Letitia James, Deputy Brooklyn Borough President Kim Council, and New York City Councilmember Crystal Hudson, who joined residents in celebrating the season. The group also thanked their community partners in attendance, including Detective Daniel O'Connell, NYPD Community Affairs Section Housing, and Samantha Johnson, representing Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez.
Cheryl Goodman, a member of the Farragut Stakeholders Group, shared, “Once again, it was a magnificent time at the FSG Tree Lighting festivities at Farragut Houses. Thank you to the residents, elected officials, singers, and organizations who came out and shared in this special moment.”
