Three Brooklyn bars will join a citywide effort this October to raise funds for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, giving local patrons an opportunity to support the cause while visiting neighborhood establishments.
The effort is part of Chemo Comfort, hosting its 12th annual Cocktails for Comfort fundraiser Oct. 9-18, with 13 bars and restaurants across Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens offering signature cocktails and mocktails.
Proceeds from participating drinks will support Chemo Comfort, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that provides comfort kits and resources to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
In Brooklyn, Blinky’s at 609 Grand St., Folk at 689 Sixth Ave. and Kissa Kissa at 667 Franklin Ave. will participate in the 10-day campaign. Other participating establishments are located in Manhattan and Long Island City.
Most venues will offer a nonalcoholic version of their featured drink, giving patrons an option to participate without ordering alcohol.
The Brooklyn participation comes during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and has particular significance for Chemo Comfort because its founder, Anne Marie Paolucci, is a breast cancer survivor. The organization serves cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy regardless of cancer type, making the campaign broader than breast cancer awareness alone.
Founded in 2003, Chemo Comfort provides kits containing products designed to help patients manage chemotherapy side effects, including nausea, mouth sores and hair loss. The kits also include comfort items and practical resources intended to help patients navigate treatment.
“The Chemo Comfort Kit provided me with essential and very useful items and information while I was undergoing chemotherapy," said Alexis, Art Bar's manager and former cancer patient. "I am thrilled that Art Bar is once again able support this wonderful cause!”
For Brooklyn residents, the fundraiser offers a direct way to support that work through businesses in their own neighborhoods. Patrons can participate by ordering a designated Cocktails for Comfort drink or mocktail at one of the participating locations between Oct. 9 and 18.
Locations and featured drinks may change, so patrons should check Chemo Comfort’s official event page for the latest information before visiting.
