St. John’s University, Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School and Student Sponsor Partners on Oct. 29 launched InsureFutures, a workforce-development initiative offering paid work-study opportunities to students at top insurance firms across New York City.

Backed by philanthropist William J. Janetschek, chair of the St. John’s University Board of Trustees and retired chief financial officer of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., the program aims to strengthen the pipeline between education and career while expanding diversity within the insurance field.

Twenty Cristo Rey students will gain hands-on job experience, mentorship, professional networking, and leadership training designed to prepare them for long-term success.

“Cristo Rey Brooklyn students work hard to balance rigorous academics with real-world job placements,” said Michael Motyl, president and chief executive officer of Cristo Rey Brooklyn. "This program expands access to an entire career field for young people who might not otherwise see themselves represented there.”

The initiative directly responds to the insurance industry’s call for diverse, high-potential talent and focuses on both college access and career readiness. Student placements are hosted by major insurance firms including AEGIS Insurance Services, AXA XL, Chubb, Everest Group, Marsh, Starr, The Hartford, Travelers and Vantage Risk.

Participants will also receive priority consideration for admission to St. John’s University’s Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science, positioning them to pursue degrees and careers in risk management and insurance.
