NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health and Be Proud Inc. have opened the God Bless America art exhibition, featuring 19 original artworks celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The exhibition, recently hosted at South Brooklyn Health, brings together works by local Russian-speaking artists who were invited to express their individual visions of America through various artistic mediums.
The collection includes paintings, photography, collage, sculpture, mixed-media and handcrafted art. Nearly 100 people attended the exhibition’s opening night.
“We are proud to exhibit the work of these Brooklyn artists from Be Proud Inc.’s God Bless America art competition at South Brooklyn Health,” said Manjinder Kaur, DNP, FACHE, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health. “These works transform our spaces, bring joy to our visitors and foster healing for our patients and their families.”
The exhibition gives patients, visitors, staff and Brooklyn community members an opportunity to experience artwork inspired by freedom, hope, community and the pursuit of the American Dream. The works reflect the artists’ perspectives on an America that has given them opportunities to dream, create, build communities and pursue new possibilities.
The collection features patriotic imagery, including tall ships and soaring eagles, as well as family portraits, historic landmarks and events, veterans’ service and interpretations of the immigrant experience. One featured collage highlights a family member’s military service.
The partnership also provides local artists with an opportunity to showcase their work in a health care setting accessible to patients, families, staff and visitors.
Be Proud Inc. is a Brooklyn community-based organization that supports Russian-speaking communities through cultural, educational, civic and community-building initiatives. Its God Bless America art competition provided the works featured in the exhibition.
The exhibition is on view in the first gallery of the second-floor visitor walkway at South Brooklyn Health. Patients, visitors, staff and members of the Brooklyn community can view the collection through the end of the year.
