The family and community of Bashar Barakah Jackson, known to the world as Pop Smoke, will gather to celebrate his life, legacy and love on what would have been his 26th birthday in Canarsie at the annual Pop Smoke Day taking place on Sunday, July 20.
A parade will kick off the family-friendly festivities at 9:00am from 80th Street and Flatlands Avenue. The parade will go to 91st Street and Seaview Avenue to join the festival, from 11:00am to 5:00pm, at Canarsie Park.
The free event will feature music by DJ JP, performances by local artists, drill and dance teams and a community food giveaway.
There will also be basketball games, kids' activities and local food vendors and trucks.
The event is organized by Shoot For The Stars Foundation, founded by Jackson's mother Audrey Jackson.
“This is for the people,” Shoot For the Stars Foundation said in a statement. “Pop’s roots are here in Canarsie. His spirit still walks these blocks. Pop Smoke Day is about love, unity and lifting each other up, just like he always wanted."
Jackson, a rapper, was killed in his Los Angeles home in 2020.
