Workforce development nonprofit Building Skills NY (BSNY) will offer free construction skills training classes in Cypress Hills in May.

Training will take place at Cypress Hills Community Center at 276 Chestnut St. Programming will begin Monday, May 6, and continue until Thursday,  June 20, from Monday through Thursday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

BSNY has place more than 2,100 New Yorkers into full-time jobs, with over 100 training graduates since 2022, according to a news release.

Those who complete the course will receive certifications from the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) Core and Foundation certifications. NCCER Core is used for general instruction for entry-level construction workers utilizing curriculum from National Center for Construction Education and Research; Foundation 6 is a BSNY-designed training module that equips trainees with the six most in-demand certifications (OSHA-30, SST 10, 4-hour scaffold, 4-hour flagger, silica awareness, and F-60).

Eligibility requires interested parties to be over the age of 18, with young adults being the priority for this cohort; a NYC resident in one of the five boroughs and eligible to work in the US.

Those interested in signing up can fill out an interest form. While there is no hard deadline, it is reccommended to fill out the form by May 2, 2024 for the opportunity to be enrolled for the May 9 programming.
