Brooklyn Org, along with more than a dozen local nonprofits, will host its second annual Brooklyn Org Volunteer Day on Saturday, April 26, turning National Volunteer Month into a celebration of community service across the borough.
The initiative, first launched in 2024, invites Brooklyn residents to engage in hands-on, family-friendly volunteer activities while connecting with organizations that serve their communities, according to a press release. Organizers hope the event will become the largest single day of volunteering in Brooklyn’s history.
"Brooklyn Org Volunteer Day represents an extraordinary opportunity to unite our borough through service," said Jocelynne Rainey, president and chief executive officer of Brooklyn Org. "Building on the success of our inaugural volunteer day in 2024, we're inviting every Brooklynite and Brooklyn nonprofit to join us in creating what we expect to be the largest single day of volunteering in Brooklyn's history."
Volunteer activities will be spread throughout Brooklyn and offer something for all interests and age groups. Events include a street cleanup and farming session with Red Hook Initiative from 9:00am to 1:00pm at Red Hook Farms, 560 Columbia St.; computer packing and e-waste recycling with Technology for Families in Need from 10:00am to 1:00pm at 68 34th St., Suite B517, in Industry City; and book sorting with Brooklyn Book Bodega from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at 141 Flushing Ave., Suite 407, in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
Other participating partners include Bloom Again Brooklyn, Brownsville Community Culinary Center, Community Help in Park Slope (CHiPS), Good Call, Gowanus Canal Conservancy, Mixteca, Parent-Child Relationship Center, Sure We Can and more.
