New York State Senator Kevin Parker hosted his 17th annual Free Prom Dress Giveaway at Samuel J. Tilden Educational Campus on June 1, drawing more than 150 students and families for an afternoon focused on access, celebration and community support.
The event provided free prom dresses, shoes, jewelry, evening bags, beauty products, hairstyling consultations, makeup tutorials, giveaways and other prom essentials. Students browsed donated items and received support from volunteers, stylists, beauty professionals and community partners helping them prepare for prom.
“Prom is a milestone that every student deserves to experience fully,” said Parker. “This giveaway is about removing barriers, supporting families and letting our young people know that their community is proud of them. Every dress, every pair of shoes, every accessory and every act of service represents our shared commitment to helping students feel seen, celebrated, and prepared for this special moment.”
Now in its 17th year, the program aims to ease financial pressure during prom season as families face rising costs for formalwear, beauty services and transportation. The effort helps ensure students can attend prom with dignity and confidence.
“Community work is strongest when people come together around a clear purpose,” Parker said. “This event continues to show what is possible when we invest in young people not only through policy, but through presence, care and action.”
Throughout the event, students selected outfits and accessories, participated in styling sessions and engaged with volunteers in a community setting. The giveaway was supported by donors, local businesses, stylists, beauty professionals and organizations contributing items, services and time.
Parker represents New York’s 21st State Senate District, including neighborhoods such as Flatbush, East Flatbush, Midwood, Ditmas Park, Kensington, Brownsville, Canarsie, Mill Basin, Georgetown, Marine Park and Bergen Beach.
