Brooklyn College Announces CUNY Stages Performances

A free Brahms recital and a contemporary theater production are among the performances planned for Brooklyn College this October.

Brooklyn College will host music and theater performances this October as part of the new CUNY Stages Festival, a monthlong celebration of the performing arts at City University of New York campuses across the five boroughs.

The festival brings classical music and contemporary theater to Brooklyn, while other events across the city feature dance, film, live music and family entertainment.

A free chamber recital featuring works by Johannes Brahms is scheduled for Oct. 20 at the Leonard and Clare Tow Center for the Performing Arts, 2900 Bedford Ave. The program includes Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes, performed by vocalists Christine Cornell, Margaret Dobbins, Patrick Silk and George Baolin, accompanied by pianists Jay Simon Abrera and William Rayment.

Brooklyn College’s theater program also includes Fefu and Her Friends by María Irene Fornés at the Don Buchwald Theater. The play follows a group of women whose conversations reveal personal struggles and the effects of gender expectations on their lives. Guest director Ran Xia leads the production.

Performances are scheduled for Oct. 23, 24, 26, 27 and 28, including a matinee on Oct. 24, according to the festival announcement.

The festival connects Brooklyn residents with a broader citywide cultural program while bringing artistic performances to a local college campus. Its programming spans established works and experimental productions, creating opportunities for artists, students and surrounding communities to engage with the performing arts.

Across CUNY’s 14 campuses, the festival features theater, dance, concerts and family programming. Many events are free and open to the public.

Brooklyn residents can find event details, ticket information and registration requirements on the CUNY Stages website at www.cunystages.org.

Admission policies and prices vary by performance. Attendees should check the website for the latest schedule and availability before attending.
