New York Cares, in partnership with Barclays Center, hosted its 35th annual coat drive on Wednesday.
NY Cares said it has so far collected 64,000 coats, after receiving a record number of requests this season from nonprofit partners.
Brooklyn native and Nets legend Albert King was on hand as a volunteer to collect the coats, which will be distributed to Brooklyn Defender Services to directly support Brooklyn residents in need, according to a statement.
New York Cares aims to collect more than 100,000 winter coats and raise $600,000 through February 29. Individuals and organizations can set up a coat collection or a virtual Coats+ fundraiser with every $25 donation helping to keep 10 New Yorkers warm.
