The redistricting process for the New York Assembly is about to start again. In December 2022, New York’s independent redistricting commission released a draft Assembly district map. However, after several court battles, the NY Senate and Congressional maps proposed by the NY Legislature were struck down. The Assembly map soon followed, and the commission is now required to redraw the Assembly map as well.
Redistricting is the process by which new congressional and state legislative district boundaries are drawn to actively reflect changes in populations and shifts in demographics.
The commission is holding public hearings across the state to take public comments on these new district lines.
The Kings County public hearings will be on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 4:00pm.
