The health department is hosting various training sessions to enhance the important work community health workers do for our communities.
The NYC Department of Health is hosting several trainings for community health workers (CHW) at various Neighborhood Health Action Centers in Brooklyn, Harlem and the Bronx. These trainings are intended to enhance the existing work CHWs do in our city.
Community health workers are frontline public health workers who are members of and/ or have an unusually close understanding of the community they serve. This trusting relationship enables CHWs to serve as a link between health and social services, and the community to facilitate access to services and improve the quality and cultural competence of service delivery. CHWs also build individual and community capacity by increasing health knowledge and self-sufficiency through a range of activities such as outreach, community education, informal counseling, social support and advocacy.
In Brooklyn the following training sessions will take place:
- Motivational Interviewing | May 7, and May 12 |10:00am to 5:00pm
- Trauma Informed Care | June 12, 10:00am - 5:00pm
The trainings are free and open to community health workers. The trainings will take place at the Brooklyn Neighborhood Health Action Center, 485 Throop Avenue in Brooklyn. Interested community health workers can register here. For questions, please contact aanderson1@health.nyc.gov.
