The Dollicia F. Holloway Memorial Foundation, a domestic violence awareness organization based out of Uniondale, NY, has awarded the Central Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation in Brownsville a Technology Grant of 20 laptops computers to assist with the expansion their current Adult Literacy/High School Equivalency classes.
Central Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation (CBEDC), located at 444 Thomas Boyland Street, provides Adult Basic Literacy and High School Equivalency classes for community residents that reside within Brooklyn's District 16. Classes started September 2015 and will continue through in June 2016.
According to La'Shawn Allen-Muhammad, CBEDC's newly appointed executive director, the community development organization plans to work on a contextualized curriculum and integrated learning modules with The Dollicia F. Holloway Memorial Foundation to provide concrete learning opportunities that will lead to higher education outcomes and employment for its students.
"The CBEDC is looking to expand its program to include a Bridge to College/Career Pathway program, said Allen-Muhammad. "In addition to partnering with the Dollicia F. Holloway Memorial Foundation, the CBEDC is in pursuit of partnering with Medgar Evers College's Office of Continuing Education and Pipeline Program to achieve this goal. This school year, our goal is to serve is approximately 68 participants."
