A new study by home-search platform has revealed the borough's most dangerous intersections, warning Brooklyn cyclists to be particularly careful in Crown Heights, Downtown Brooklyn and Williamsburg.

For the report, analyzed every intersection in NYC and evaluated the relative safety of each one based on bicycle injuries and fatalities, for a five-year period through 2018.

"Experts and the city already know where the dangerous intersections are and what makes them so unsafe," said urban planner Sam Sklar. "If you're thinking about taking up cycling you should know if the intersections and streets near your home are dangerous."

The study comes amid a wave of fatal bicycle accidents that have killed 18 New Yorkers this year so far, with 13 of them in Brooklyn.

In response to the surge in fatalities and injuries, Mayor Bill de Blasio's recently unveiled his "Green Wave" bicycle plan, a $58 million initiative that will ramp up NYPD enforcement at the 100-most crash-prone intersections, renovate 50 intersections with turn-calming treatments and re-design areas where fatalities occur. The NYC Department of Transportation has not yet disclosed which intersections will fall into these lists and will share more details as they become available, officials said.
