Every year in January, Brooklyn Academy of Music is host to New York City's largest public celebration of Civil Rights Leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This year, author, professor and activist Angela Davis served as the event's keynote speaker, where she addressed a packed house. What a fitting honor it was to have a living legend, a cultural icon of civil and human rights speak in Brooklyn on such an important day.

Through her activism and scholarship over the last decades, Angela Davis has been deeply involved in the nation's quest for social justice. She spent the last 15 years at the University of California Santa Cruz where she is now Distinguished Professor Emerita of history of consciousness, an inter-disciplinary Ph.D program, and feminist studies.

Here we have captured a few snippets of Davis's speech, accompanied by the BCCC Singers of Brooklyn Christian Cultural Center at BAM's Howard Gilman Opera House.
