U.S. Representative Hakeen Jeffries said he has invited a Canarise bus driver and caregiver as his guest to the State of the Union Address on Monday.

Jeffries, who represents parts of Brooklyn in Congress, said he is inviting Vonetta Rougier, a full-time bus operator, mom and caregiver to her three children and 71-year-old mother.

"Vonetta is working every day and picking up extra shifts just to keep up with the skyrocketing price of housing, food and healthcare," Jeffries said in a statement. "Donald Trump promised that he would lower costs for hardworking American taxpayers like Vonetta on day one. One year later, Donald Trump and Republicans have only lowered people’s quality of life. House Democrats will continue to fight for folks like Vonetta because we know that everyday Americans deserve better.”

Jeffries said he also invited the family of the late Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr., and Marina Lacerda, one of the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse who is attending as a guest of the Democratic Women’s Caucus (DWC).

The State of the Union, scheduled to start around 9:00pm, is expected to cover the economy and foreign policy.
