Applications are now open for The Fresh Air Fund’s free 2026 summer sleepaway camps, offering New York City youth the chance to spend the summer exploring the outdoors in the Mid-Hudson Valley.
The nonprofit youth development organization operates six camps where campers can build friendships, learn new skills and take part in a wide range of recreational and educational activities.
The camps serve young people ages 8 to 17, with most programs located on more than 2,000 acres in Fishkill, New York, and Camp Junior based in Harriman State Park. Campers participate in swimming, sports, music, arts and crafts, environmental learning and outdoor adventure programs designed to promote personal growth and confidence.
“The Fresh Air Fund provides a safe and joyful summer environment for youth to explore the outdoors and have new experiences,” said Lisa Gitelson, chief executive officer of The Fresh Air Fund. “We look forward to welcoming returning and new campers for another incredible summer.”
Camp Anita Bliss Coler welcomes girls ages 9 to 14 and emphasizes leadership development and self-confidence through group activities, creative arts and outdoor recreation.
Camp Hidden Valley serves youth ages 8 to 12 and focuses on community building through traditional camp activities and shared experiences. Camp Hayden-Marks is designed for boys ages 9 to 14 and encourages curiosity, teamwork and trying new activities, including engineering, photography and music.
Camp Junior, named in memory of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz, serves Bronx youth ages 8 to 17 and operates in partnership with New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and other public partners.
Camp Mariah, the summer component of the Career Awareness Program, serves youth ages 12 to 15 and combines outdoor recreation with classes in areas such as film, culinary arts, robotics and career preparation.
Older teens can participate in leadership development at Camp Tommy through the Leaders-in-Training and Counselor-in-Training programs, which include workshops, mentorship opportunities and stipends for participants who complete program requirements.
The Fresh Air Fund is also hiring seasonal camp staff, including counselors, program specialists, lifeguards and nurses. Staff must be at least 18 years old and receive pay along with room and board. More information about applications and camp opportunities is available at FreshAir.org.
