Cornrows and Cornbread to Kick Off Inaugural THRIVE Festival in June

The all-day festival, filled with workshops and panel discussions, will take place at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on June 22.

Cornrows and Cornbread, a collective of artists, entrepreneurs and wellness professionals, announced they will be hosting their inaugural THRIVE Festival, an event dedicated to celebrating creativity, wellness and community, on June 22.

The festival will take place from noon to 6pm at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, offering a full day of engaging activities, inspiring panel discussions and interactive workshops, according to a news release.

The THRIVE Festival will include a fitness activities like a seated yoga session and a low-impact HIIT session, panels on holistic health and digital creativity and an open mic performance showcasing local talent through poetry, music and storytelling.

Participants can also vie for the title of Cornbread Champion 2024 at the cornbread competition. The competition will be judged by a distinguished judges panel including Jamane Weekes, the co-owner of Lips Cafe. The winner will have their recipe featured as a limited-time menu item at Lips Cafe and Lakou Cafe, and will receive a cash prize.

Throughout the day, attendees can enjoy free painless cornrow braiding, hand massages, manicures and a creative t-shirt design workshop. The festival will also feature a marketplace for networking and shopping with local vendors and artisans, and also includes a dance party.
