Brooklyn's Block Party Season Kicks Off in Clinton Hill

Despite the rain, father-son DJ Jo Vill and DJ Chill started Brooklyn's block party season with the 6th annual Saint James Joy in Clinton Hill.

The father-son duo DJ Jo Vill and DJ Chill returned to Clinton Hill on Saturday to celebrate the sixth anniversary of the block party Saint James Joy.

Despite the rain, dozens of Brooklyn residents started off the spring block party season with pride. Sneakers got soaked and outfits were drenched, but nobody cared because the music cut through it all. The downpour bought people closer together as they danced under umbrellas, tents, awnings and ponchos.

Brooklynites of all ages and races grooved to electrifying sounds filled with soul, house and classic funk. DJ sets included DJ Jarvy Jarv, who set the tone followed by Ian Friday, Joe Claussell and DJ Jo Vill and DJ Chill closing out the evening.

Hitting six years isn’t just about longevity, it’s about consistency and building something that holds up even when weather conditions aren’t ideal. Saint James Joy is about connection and community offering a space for DJs, neighbors, artists and vendors to exist on the same level.
