Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show featured many celebrities, but one A-lister who handed the musician a shot from her bar at the end of the song NUEVAYoL hails from Williamsburg: Maria Antonia "Toñita" Cay, according to Hell Gate.
Cay's Caribbean Social Club on Grand Street helped shape Los Sures, a neighborhood that has been predominately Latino since the 1950s but one that is shrinking today. Toñita's is the last Puerto Rican social club in Brooklyn, according to the news site.
Cay thanked the musician on her Instagram: "Thank God we saw you and were able to share with you. May God bless you and may you continue to succeed until the end!"
Bad Bunny popped into Toñita's back in 2022, and he later included a reference to her in NUEVAYoL. The decor of the Super Bowl set—twinkling Christmas lights next to bottles of rum on wooden shelves—was an obvious homage, the news site said.
Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso was thrilled with the cameo.
"Last night, she was the star of the Boricua Bowl. Whatever coast she is on, Toñita is an icon!" he said on X.
