The Brooklyn Children’s Museum (BCM) will host its annual Halloween celebration on Sunday, Oct. 27, featuring its first-ever manga and anime-themed event, curated by AniTOMO Con.
Along with traditional activities such as trick-or-treating and a kids’ costume contest, the museum will offer an experience that blends Halloween fun with Japanese pop culture, according to a press release.
“This Halloween, we’ve got candy and creatures, costumes and cosplay,” said Dylan House, director of Public Programs at BCM. “It’s fun for the whole family.”
Families are encouraged to come in costume and trick-or-treat around the museum exhibits, meet creepy crawlies from BCM’s animal collection and participate in the costume contest. On the museum’s rooftop, visitors can explore the Kawaii Kreature Festival, which includes Japanese-inspired art workshops, photo opportunities with professional cosplayers and a free screening of Okko’s Inn presented by GKIDS in the museum’s movie theater.
“Japan is renowned for creating some of the world’s most unique and unforgettable Halloween celebrations. We’ve crafted an unforgettable experience for young Brooklynites, with vibrant anime cosplayers, mangaka and artists – all embodying the Kawaii Kreature spirit!" said Eileen Level, founder of AniTOMO Con.
The event will take place during these times:
- 10:00am – 12:30pm
- 1:00pm – 3:30pm
- 4:00pm – 6:30pm.
During the event, visitors can also help name the museum’s three live tarantulas. The naming contest runs through October, with the last chance to submit entries on the day of the Halloween celebration. Finalists will be announced via BCM’s Instagram (@bcmkids) on Halloween, and the winning names will be revealed on Nov. 1.
Tickets for Halloween at BCM are $15 for general admission, $14 for grandparents and free for children under one year old. Tickets grant access to all activities, and reservations can be made at Brooklyn Children’s Museum.
