Rooted Theater Company will present its House of Rooted Theater Festival, a dynamic celebration of queer artistry in the performing arts, in partnership with the Billie Holiday Theater and Brooklyn Pride.
The annual festival will take place on Friday, June 21 at 7:00pm at The Billie, located at 1368 Fulton St. in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
The festival features original short plays written and directed by LGBTQ+ artists. Each work explores the depth, joy and resilience of queer life, offering a platform for stories that are often underrepresented on stage.
“The House of Rooted Theater Festival is our offering to the community, a space to gather, witness, and celebrate queer brilliance on stage,” said Kareem Nemley, co-founder and artistic director of Rooted Theater Company, a Brooklyn based nonprofit dedicated to socially conscious productions that span classic to contemporary works.
Now in its second year, the event is becoming a staple of Brooklyn’s Pride Month programming, drawing audiences for its intimate storytelling and powerful performances.
“We are so proud to partner with Rooted Theater Company to present this Festival. It aligns with The Billie’s mission and our commitment to championing diverse artistic voices. This festival uplifts LGBTQ+ narratives in bold, joyful and deeply necessary ways,” said Shadawn Smith, executive director of The Billie Holiday Theater.
The event is recommended for ages 16 and up. Tickets are $25 and available on Eventbrite.
