NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull has named Dr. Wendy Wilcox as its new Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
A board-certified OB/GYN and longtime leader in women’s health, Dr. Wilcox has shaped initiatives across the city to improve maternal and infant outcomes. She will continue serving as the health system’s Chief Women’s Health Officer, a role she has held since 2021.
“Women’s health – maternal health – is extremely important to me, and I knew that I wanted Dr. Wilcox to join the clinical team as we begin a new era at Woodhull Hospital,” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull CEO Sandra Sneed, MBA, FACHE.
Dr. Wilcox will oversee a major expansion of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, including a new Labor and Birthing Unit, operating room suite, post-anesthesia care unit and a first-of-its-kind alongside Birthing Center.
The hospital, which delivers more than 1,000 babies each year, will also move toward national certification and implement a new fetal monitoring system under her leadership.
Dr. Wilcox has spearheaded several groundbreaking programs at NYC Health + Hospitals, including the Maternal Home, which connects pregnant patients with on-site social workers for additional support and the Maternal Mortality Reduction Program, which launched OB Simulation Labs across the system.
She has also helped lead initiatives focused on maternal heart health, substance use disorder treatment and reducing racial disparities in care.
Her career spans over 15 years in leadership positions, including serving as Chair of OB/GYN at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County and Clinical Service Line Lead for Women’s Health. In 2021, she became the system’s first-ever Chief Women’s Health Officer.
Beyond her hospital work, Dr. Wilcox is recognized statewide as a leading voice on maternal mortality.
She co-chairs the New York State Maternal Mortality Review Board, serves on the State Taskforce for Maternal Mortality and Racial Disparities, and co-leads both the Brooklyn Borough Maternal Health Taskforce and the City Council Speaker’s Maternal Health Steering Committee.
Dr. Wilcox has also held academic appointments at CUNY School of Medicine, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and SUNY Downstate. She has been named among Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors, Top Black Doctors and Exceptional Women in Medicine in both 2024 and 2025.
Her educational background includes degrees from Brown University, SUNY Upstate Medical Center, Columbia University and Wagner College.
“Dr. Wilcox is a true expert and a national leader on the subject of maternal health, and we’re so excited to have her lead the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology,” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull Chief Medical Officer Ross MacDonald, MD.
