On Sept. 29, Mayor Zohran Mamdani and NYC Health + Hospitals announced the opening of a Bridge to Home facility in Brooklyn with a ribbon cutting in Crown Heights.
The site will provide private rooms for nearly 50 guests, expanding on a program dedicated to helping New Yorkers with serious mental illnesses move from hospital care and into stable housing with continued treatment.
Rather than sending residents from inpatient care to shelters or the street, the program provides a home-style setting, clinical and behavioral services onsite and housing application assistance.
“Recovery should not end at the hospital doors, and no New Yorker should have to choose between getting the care they need and having a safe place to call home,” Mamdani said. “By bringing this program to Brooklyn, we are giving more New Yorkers the stability, treatment and support they need to recover and move into permanent homes with dignity.”
Since the first Bridge to Home site opened in Midtown Manhattan in 2025, about 80 percent of guests attend weekly visits, 70 percent have completed housing applications and almost 20 guests have transitioned into permanent supportive housing, according to a press release from NYC Health + Hospitals.
“Our Manhattan guests and their incredible care team have shown what that stability makes possible,” said Dr. Mitchell Katz, president and CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals. “I am grateful for the support of Mayor Mamdani and our city partners who have helped us quickly open our Brooklyn site so we can offer that same path to a better life for more New Yorkers in need.”
Bridge to Home in Brooklyn will welcome up to 50 guests who are able to stay for up to 12 months or until they are connected with permanent supportive housing. The facility will allow guests to remain connected to support services such as substance use disorder treatment, individual and group therapy and social services.
