The New York Blood Center is encouraging New Yorkers to donate blood and platelets by offering an incentive for basketball fans to support Brooklyn’s home team.
From March 1 through March 5, all regular blood donors who make a donation at NYBC’s Brooklyn Donor Center will be entered into a daily sweepstakes, drawing five winners each day, for a chance to win two tickets to the Nets vs. Hawks game on April 3 at Barclays Center.
All platelet donors will automatically receive two tickets to the game. In addition, those who donate at any NYC donor center, including at NYBC’s Queens and Bronx centers, will also have a chance to win two tickets to this game.
NYBC lost nearly 3,000 donations following the Feburary snow storm, significantly impacting the region’s blood supply, officials said.
“Every donation truly makes a difference, and we wanted to give New Yorkers an extra reason to roll up their sleeves this March,” said Jeannie Mascolino, vice president of Blood Operations at New York Blood Center. “We hope this exciting promotion brings New Yorkers from across the five boroughs together to support our home team, helps replenish the blood supply at our hospitals and adds some excitement for basketball fans while supporting a critical cause.”
Blood donors can give every 56 days, and platelet donors can give twice per month. In light of recent updates to FDA guidance, more people than ever may now be eligible to give. To view current eligibility guidelines, visit nybc.org or call 800-688-0900.
