Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso on Wednesday presented $3.85 million in capital funding toward upgrades at NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health centers across the borough, with a focus on improving patient care spaces and expanding essential services in underserved communities.
The largest share of the funding will go to Gotham Health’s East New York location, which will receive $1.75 million for renovations of its women’s health and pediatrics unit.
The overhaul will introduce a dedicated lactation room, a new staff break area and integrated Women, Infants and Children (WIC) services, aiming to better support mothers, children and families who rely on the site for care.
“Every Brooklynite deserves access to world-class healthcare but there is so much work to be done to overcome decades of inequities and disinvestment,” said Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso.
Additional investments at East New York include $650,000 to expand optometry services through the construction of new exam rooms, along with $300,000 to upgrade the facility’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system.
Two other Brooklyn sites will also see targeted improvements. At Gotham Health’s Cumberland center, $250,000 is allocated to replace outdated dental imaging equipment, while $150,000 will fund renovations to modernize eye care rooms.
In Brownsville, $750,000 will go toward upgrading the clinic’s HVAC system to improve climate control, particularly on the first floor where patient volume is high.
“We are deeply grateful to Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso for his generous support. These investments will directly enhance patient care across our Brooklyn facilities, including East New York, Cumberland, and Brownsville,” said Michelle Lewis, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health.
The funding spans multiple areas of care, including pediatrics, women’s health, dental and vision services. It is part of a broader push to address long-standing disparities in access to quality healthcare across Brooklyn neighborhoods.
Together, the investments are expected to modernize infrastructure, expand service capacity and improve the overall patient experience at Gotham Health facilities that serve thousands of residents each year.
