The Goddard School will open its first Brooklyn location in August, expanding the early childhood education franchise into the borough and marking its seventh school in New York City.
The Greenpoint campus will increase local child care options, serve about 140 children and create 30 teaching jobs.
Located at 85 Commercial St., the 10,175-square-foot school will feature 11 classrooms designed for infants and young children. The campus will also include an indoor movement area, multiple outdoor playgrounds and hospital-grade sanitation equipment to help maintain a healthy learning environment.
The school is owned by local parent Poonam Sharma, who chose to bring the franchise to Brooklyn after recognizing a need for more high-quality child care in the community.
"I was inspired to bring The Goddard School to Brooklyn after exploring child care options for my own family and seeing an opportunity to introduce a higher standard of early childhood education to the community," said Sharma. "We are committed to creating a warm, welcoming environment for children and their families and look forward to becoming a trusted resource for working parents."
The school's signature Wonder of Learning curriculum emphasizes inquiry-based education, encouraging children to learn through exploration, curiosity and hands-on experiences. The program combines teacher-guided activities with ongoing assessments of children's academic and social-emotional growth.
