Celebrate Malcolm X’s Birthday in Bed-Stuy on May 18

Malcolm X Utica Avenue Merchants Association will host a big celebration on Saturday, May 18, honoring civil rights leader Malcolm X.

The Malcolm X - Utica Avenue Merchant Association (MUAMA) will be hosting “X Marks the Spot,” a celebration to honor the 99th birthday of the the civil rights leader Malcolm X.

On Saturday, May 18, the #XMarksTheSpot celebration will begin at 9am and continuing until 11pm, with a a full day of commerce, networking and vibrant music spanning different genres along Malcolm X Blvd., according to a news release. 

"MUAMA envisions the “X Marks the Spot” celebration as a catalyst for increased foot traffic along the Malcolm X corridor (formerly Reid Avenue), in an effort to provide vital support to local small businesses and enhance the overall branding of Bedford Stuyvesant and Malcolm X Blvd. as a premier destination in Brooklyn," said Angela Terry, owner of Therapy Wine Bar and President of Malcolm X Utica Avenue Merchant Association. 

Participating merchants and organizations include BKNYC Mobile Notary, Brooklyn Residency, Chez Oskar, Dick & Jane's Bar Room, Filly Luv, Flateau Realty, Corp., Global Wealth, Happy Buds, Lavender Blues, Ma Lillit, Mac Shack, Milk & Pull, PS 262 Arts Program, the Katmint Learning Initiative, the Nourish Spot BK, Verdure Florist and Therapy Wine Bar 2.0.
