The New York City Housing Authority and the Permanent Affordability Commitment Together program (PACT) cut the ribbon on a $636 million renovation of Reid & Park Rock homes in East Brooklyn on Oct. 16.
The rehabilitation modernized nearly 1,700 affordable homes across 87 buildings, bringing exterior apartment upgrades, system improvements, advanced security measures and expanded resident services to nearly 3,000 residents.
Homes span across Brownsville, Ocean Hill, East New York and Crown Heights.
“The completion of Reid & Park Rock represents a major investment in the homes, communities and quality of life for nearly 3,000 NYCHA residents,” said Lisa Bova-Hiatt, chief executive officer of NYCHA.
The upgrades include new storefronts, new community spaces, free community-wide wi-fi and extensive landscaping to the common areas and communities spaces.
Residents now have access to support services through a partnership with Black Veterans for Social Justice, connecting families to resources such as healthy food programs, workforce development, youth programming and senior services.
Interior renovations include upgraded kitchens and bathrooms, new floors, appliances, modernized mechanical systems, improved lighting, elevator upgrades and accessibility improvements.
“This work has been shaped by resident input and will continue to benefit residents for decades to come," said Leila Bozorg, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Planning. "My thanks to the resident leaders, PACT partners and NYCHA team who made this transformation possible."
The completion follows the 2020 decision by the NYCHA to include Reid & Park Rock in the PACT program. Construction at the site began in April 2024.
Financing for the renovation was from a combination of public and private resources, including support from the New York City Housing Development Corporation and equity capital by the Vistria group, a private investment firm. Merchants Capital was a financial partner for the transaction.
