Jonathan Mensch, a local real estate investor and developer, has completed the multimillion-dollar purchase of 11 properties in the heart of the Village of Red Hook from the Baright family, ending more than five decades of family ownership, according to The Daily Catch.
The transaction closed Oct. 1 and includes commercial and residential properties that have long been part of the Village’s business community.
The portfolio includes more than 70 apartments and 27 commercial tenants, as well as several prominent properties around Red Hook’s Four Corners. The holdings include the buildings housing The Corner Counter Market, Bliss Juice + Cafe and Yum Yum Noodle Bar. Mensch also acquired the Baright family’s former office at 7509 N.
Mensch, who moved to Red Hook four years ago after more than 15 years in Rhinebeck, will oversee the portfolio with the existing management team.
“The reality is that it’s an honor to be entrusted with properties that are so tied in with the Baright family’s history and Red Hook as a community,” said Jonathan Mensch. “There’s an obligation of stewardship to this that I’m taking very seriously.”
The sale represents a significant transition for Red Hook. The Baright family began acquiring Village properties in 1972 and gradually built a portfolio that included commercial buildings, apartments and storefronts.
Over the decades, the family became closely associated with the upkeep of its properties and the character of the Village, while supporting local businesses and community organizations.
Mensch plans to maintain the properties and existing tenant relationships rather than pursue major changes. He also intends to continue the Village’s outdoor summer music program and create conditions that support local businesses.
The combination of existing tenants, residential units and established management gives the portfolio an immediate role in the Village’s commercial and residential landscape.
The properties had a combined assessed value of about $11.2 million when they were initially offered for sale, although the purchase price was not disclosed.
