Brooklyn isn’t just a hub for culture, creativity and cuisine, it’s also home to some of the most imaginatively-designed playgrounds in New York City.
Beyond the classic swing sets and slides, these spaces offer kids (and playful adults) immersive experiences that reflect art, history and innovation. From repurposed ship parts to whimsical water features, these four playgrounds show how design can turn a simple park visit into an unforgettable adventure.
1. Domino Park Playground – Williamsburg
Set against the backdrop of the East River and the Williamsburg Bridge, Domino Park Playground is made from salvaged parts of the old Domino Sugar Refinery. With towering steel structures and elevated walkways, it mimics the inner workings of a sugar factory, turning industrial history into interactive play.

2. Harmony Playground - Park Slope
Named for its proximity to the Prospect Park Bandshell, Harmony Playground is music-themed and features xylophones, drums and instruments kids can actually play. It’s a joyful blend of physical play and musical discovery.

3. Pier 6 Playground - Brooklyn Bridge Park
There's so much at this multi-layered playground at Pier 6: boulders to climb, larger-than-life slides, innovative swings, sand and an incredible water-play area. It's interactive, easy to navigate and all on the waterfront.

4. Zucker Natural Exploration Area - Prospect Park
Located on Nellie’s Lawn, in the north-eastern section of the park’s 526 acres, the area officially named The Donald and Barbara Zucker Natural Exploration Area was constructed from the park’s fallen trees.
