The Other Art Fair Brooklyn will return this spring, bringing more than 100 independent artists to the Brooklyn Navy Yard for a four-day showcase of contemporary art, immersive installations and community programming. Organized by Saatchi Art, the event is scheduled for Apr. 16–19 at the historic Agger Fish Building.
The fair marks its 17th Brooklyn edition and will feature 115 independent artists presenting a wide range of works, from painting and photography to sculpture and mixed media. Known for emphasizing direct connections between artists and collectors, the event offers an alternative to traditional gallery exhibitions by allowing visitors to meet artists and purchase work directly from them.
Organizers say the Brooklyn event has become one of the fair’s most popular stops, and this year’s edition will once again transform the Navy Yard venue into a large-scale creative space filled with installations, performances and hands-on experiences.
This spring’s theme, Nostalgia Core, centers on revisiting cultural touchstones from past decades. Curated projects throughout the fair will invite visitors to interact with works inspired by retro technology, vintage design and childhood memories. Interactive elements are intended to encourage guests to explore art in playful and tactile ways, reflecting on the analog experiences that shaped earlier eras.
Opening night on Thursday, Apr. 16, will serve as an exclusive preview event featuring DJ programming and artist-led activations throughout the exhibition space. The evening is designed to give collectors and art enthusiasts a first look at the participating artists and installations.
On Friday, Apr. 17, the fair will host a special late-night program in partnership with WNYC. The event will include music from DJ Caryn, host of the public radio station’s “New Sounds,” alongside extended viewing hours and additional artist activations.
Programming will continue through the weekend with community-focused events on Saturday and Sunday. Visitors can expect artist demonstrations, participatory installations and a variety of interactive experiences designed to highlight the creative process behind the work on display.
One of the featured artists this year is Soomin Oeffinger, the recipient of the fair’s New Futures award. Oeffinger, who works under the name This This That Studio, creates handmade stained-glass pieces in Brooklyn. The award recognizes emerging artists and provides them with a platform to present their work to collectors and curators during the fair.
The New Futures selection committee includes Saatchi Art curator India Baleyjusa, independent curator and writer Claire Kim, and gallerist and artist Victoria Fry.
Since launching in 2011, The Other Art Fair has focused on supporting emerging and independent artists by giving them opportunities to sell work directly to collectors. Over the past decade, the fair has showcased nearly 10,000 artists and facilitated the sale of more than 100,000 artworks.
Today, the event takes place in major cities across the United States and the United Kingdom, with multiple fairs held annually. The Brooklyn edition remains one of its flagship events, drawing artists, collectors and art lovers from across New York City and beyond.
