The Brooklyn Children’s Museum is marking the arrival of spring break with a packed schedule of daily programming during the New York City Department of Education recess, running from April 2 through April12. The museum will be open every day during this period, offering a mix of performances, hands-on workshops and seasonal attractions designed for children and families.

The lineup begins on April 2 with a Drag Story Hour as part of the museum’s Community Access Thursday programming. The event focuses on storytelling that celebrates self-expression, inclusivity and diversity, with an emphasis on building confidence among young audiences.

On April 3, visitors can take part in Free Skate sessions led by instructors from 4WRD Roller Skate, followed by an evening Friday Night Skate event. The evening program includes a skating showcase by Gotham Roller Derby, along with food offerings and art activities, including a cyanotype zine-making workshop in the museum’s ColorLab studio.

Throughout the first weekend of the break, April 4 and 5, the museum will host sing-along screenings of the animated film Coco. Screenings are scheduled twice daily and feature on-screen lyrics to encourage audience participation in a family-friendly, group-singing environment.

A major highlight of the week is Earth Rocks!, running from April 6 through April 11. This multi-day program centers on environmental education through interactive experiences. Activities include live animal encounters, opportunities to observe insects up close and hands-on STEM experiments. Children can also create art inspired by nature, build inventions using recycled materials and explore music-making through repurposed objects. The program is designed to blend science, creativity and sustainability in an engaging format.

Additional Free Skate sessions with 4WRD will take place on April 7, again offering instruction for beginners and more experienced skaters. The museum’s indoor roller rink installation, Empire Skate of Mind, will remain open daily from April 4 through its final day on April 12. The attraction operates from 10:00am to 5:00pm, and admission to the rink includes access to the rest of the museum.

On April 11, the museum will host Ti Atis, a recurring monthly program organized in partnership with Haiti Cultural Exchange. The April session will feature a storytime accompanied by live drumming, followed by a hands-on printmaking activity. Participants will create artwork inspired by natural elements such as birds and foliage using simple materials.

Later that evening, the museum will present a 1990s-themed adults-only skate night, offering a nostalgic experience geared toward grown visitors.

The spring break programming concludes on April 12, which also marks the final day of the Empire Skate of Mind installation for the season. The museum will maintain regular hours of 10:00am to 5:00pm throughout the break, before closing on April 13 and 14.

The schedule reflects the museum’s broader approach to combining education and recreation, with activities spanning arts, science and cultural programming aimed at engaging a wide range of ages during the school holiday.
