The New York Transit Museum and MTA New York City Transit will host the 2025 Bus Festival on Sunday, Sept. 21, at Emily Warren Roebling Plaza in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Step inside historic buses to trace the evolution of New York City’s fleet by taking part in interactive activities for all ages while connecting with the people who keep the city moving. You can also capture stunning photos of vintage vehicles framed by the Manhattan skyline.
The event showcases vintage buses from the city’s fleet while giving visitors a chance to learn about New York’s transit history up close.
The free, rain-or-shine event will run from 10:00am to 3:30pm and will feature historic buses from the museum’s collection, hands-on activities and a pop-up Transit Museum store.
The New York Transit Museum Store will provide a special pop-up shop for guests. Featured items include vintage bus models, apparel, toys, books, posters, and other transit treasures.

"Bus Festival is a true collaboration between the New York Transit Museum and the MTA," says Acting Director Regina Shepherd. "It’s a day when we open the doors—literally—to New York’s surface transit history and give our visitors the chance to experience it firsthand."
This year’s lineup includes:
- Betsy (1931) – One of the earliest enclosed-top double-decker buses, in service until 1953.
- Bus 3100 (1956) – A prototype air-conditioned transit bus with wrap-around seating and fluorescent lighting.
- Bus 4727 (1969) – Built to navigate the Bronx’s hills, restored to its 1970s blue-and-blue livery.
- Bus 5227 (1971) – Part of the General Motors “New Look” fleet, rebuilt in the 1980s and retired in 1995.
Additional vehicles will be on display and a scavenger hunt will be available for younger visitors.
