Brooklyn’s own Kota the Friend is giving independent artists a rare shot to level up. In celebration of his upcoming No Rap on Sunday tour, the indie hip-hop artist and his team at Flight Boys Music & Entertainment have launched the No Rap on Sunday Open Verse Challenge and the prize is more than just bragging rights.
Artists in each of the 26 tour cities across the U.S. and Canada can submit their own verse to Kota’s track No Rap on Sunday for a chance to join him live on stage in their hometown. But that’s not all, each winner will also receive an exclusive 8-bar feature from Kota himself on their next single, a major co-sign from one of the most successful independent voices in hip-hop.
This is no industry gimmick. It’s Kota’s way of opening doors the way he wishes someone had opened them for him. From building a loyal fanbase to launching his own record label and real estate ventures, Kota has done it all independently through FLTBYS and he’s now creating space for others to do the same.
The challenge is open to artists from: Albuquerque, Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Brooklyn, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, El Paso, Fort Lauderdale, Hampton, Houston, Los Angeles, Mesa, Orlando, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Pontiac, Portland, San Antonio, San Francisco, Seattle, Tampa, Toronto, Vancouver, and Washington, D.C.
Artists can follow Kota on Instagram and TikTok or visit NoRapOnSunday.live to get the full details and sign up for updates. With live performances, a high-profile feature, and a spotlight on real talent, this is more than a challenge, it’s a career-changing moment.
