Indie Bands to Headline Brooklyn Benefit Concert For Immigrant Rights

Palehound, The Ophelias and Grumpy are teaming up for a one-night benefit show, raising funds to support the nonprofit Immigrant Defense Project.

Three indie musical acts will come together on May 27 for a one-night-only benefit concert at Baby's All Right, with all proceeds supporting the Immigrant Defense Project and its fight against immigrant detention and deportation.

Palehound, The Ophelias and Grumpy will perform at the show to raise funds and awareness for IDP’s two-decade-long mission: protecting the rights of immigrants targeted by the U.S. criminal and immigration systems through advocacy, litigation, legal training, community defense and public education, according to a press release.

El Kempner of Palehound, who headlines the bill, said she fully supports immigrants' rights.

“I am extremely disturbed by and worried about the rapidly escalating dehumanization of immigrants in our country. Up against the machine of American fascism, it can be easy to feel powerless," she said. "Bringing people together to celebrate and protect the oppressed, even in the smallest of groups, is an important and accessible vehicle of resistance."

Founded over 20 years ago, the IDP works at the intersection of immigration and the criminal legal system. As anti-immigrant policies intensify, the IDP has remained committed to fighting mass incarceration and deportation through a wide-ranging, grassroots-informed strategy.

“In a time where immigrants are being targeted and disappeared by ICE, illegally deported en masse and refused basic human rights and dignity, it’s more important than ever to be vocal in our support for immigrants and those affected by these draconian laws. It will not stop until we make it," said Spencer Peppet of The Ophelias.

The evening also marks a standout moment for rising indie stars Grumpy, whose 2024 debut EP Wolfed garnered praise from FADER, BrooklynVegan and Paste and earned them a spot on Stereogum's Best New Artist list.

Tickets for the benefit show are on sale here.
