The Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra will bring free live orchestral music to Bay Ridge on Friday, Aug. 7, transforming the Citizens Bank parking lot into an outdoor concert venue during the neighborhood's annual Summer Stroll on Third Avenue.
Rather than taking place in a traditional concert hall, the performance will transform an everyday parking lot into an open-air venue beneath the summer sky.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Citizens Bank parking lot, 9201 Third Ave. in Brooklyn. Admission is free. A 30-piece orchestra will perform with Broadway and opera vocalist Amelia Milo and clarinetist Yu Ting.
"Great music doesn't only belong inside concert halls, it belongs wherever people gather," said Philip Nuzzo, music director and conductor of the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra. "That's why we're excited to transform an everyday parking lot into an open-air concert experience where neighbors can come together, enjoy a summer evening, and discover the joy of live orchestral music."
Presented in partnership with Citizens Bank, the performance will allow residents and visitors to access live orchestral music by professional musicians in an informal community setting.
The program includes "The Star-Spangled Banner," Aaron Copland's "Hoe-Down" from "Rodeo," George Gershwin's "They Can't Take That Away from Me" and "Summertime," Arturo Márquez's "Danzón No. 2" and additional Broadway selections.
The performance adds a cultural attraction to Bay Ridge's Summer Stroll, which annually draws thousands of people to Third Avenue to shop, dine and support local businesses.
Audience members are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy the concert with family and friends.
