Molière in the Park is bringing free outdoor theater to Prospect Park this fall with its production of “Don Juan,” offering Brooklyn audiences live performances through Sept. 27 at the LeFrak Center at Lakeside, according to Secret NYC.
The Brooklyn-based theater company’s fifth season production is directed by Drama Desk Award nominee Lucie Tiberghien and translated by Stephen Wadsworth. Performances are scheduled at 7:00pm on Sept. 18, 20, 22-25 and 27, with matinees at 3:00pm on Sept. 20 and 27.
The production is free to the public, although reservations are encouraged. The Sept. 14 opening-night benefit was a ticketed event.
The production gives Brooklyn residents access to live classical theater without an admission cost. Molière in the Park has built its programming around making theater accessible while using public performances to bring audiences together in Prospect Park.
The company is presenting “Don Juan” in partnership with Prospect Park Alliance.
The play follows Don Juan, a notorious seducer who travels with his servant, Sganarelle, while confronting romantic pursuits, betrayal, morality and social expectations.
The production combines comedy, tragedy and supernatural elements. Keshav Moodliar stars as Don Juan, while Alana Raquel Bowers plays Sganarelle. Kaliswa Brewster, Kalyne Coleman and Daniel Pearce portray the remaining characters, with the three actors transforming into more than 10 roles. Drama Desk Award-nominated composer Johnathan Moore provides a live cello score.
Audiences can reserve free tickets for the remaining performances through Molière in the Park. The company will also hold its annual OneLove OneTheater Gala on Nov. 9, with programming supporting its ongoing commitment to accessible theater.
