Floyd Bennett Field! Public Arts Festival will return to Brooklyn on Oct. 3, bringing contemporary art and large-scale projection mapping to the historic site from 6:00 pm to 9:30pm.
The free, one-night event will feature 15 newly commissioned artworks presented across Hangars 3 and 4.
The works will incorporate projection mapping, animation, light, sound and storytelling, with participating artists including Derrick Adams, Randy Polumbo and Wills Glasspiegel.
The program offers visitors an opportunity to experience contemporary public art while exploring the history and natural setting of Floyd Bennett Field, which opened as New York City’s first municipal airport and is now part of Gateway National Recreation Area.
For the festival, the historic hangars will become large-scale canvases for digital artwork, connecting the site’s aviation history with contemporary creative work.
The festival previously drew nearly 2,000 people in 2024, and organizers expect more than 3,000 visitors in 2026.
Before the projections begin, attendees are invited to bring dinner for a picnic on the Hangar Lawn from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. The projection mapping is set to begin at 7:30 pm and end at 9:30 pm.
