Free Shakespeare in the Park ticket distribution begins Monday at several Citizens branches across Brooklyn, offering residents another opportunity to attend live theater performances at no cost this summer.
Citizens will host a free ticket distribution event for this season’s production of Romeo & Juliet on May 26 at its Williamsburg branch, located at 252 Bedford Ave. Tickets will be available from noon to 2:00pm, or until supplies run out.
The event is part of the larger Free Shakespeare in the Park initiative, which will distribute tickets at more than 50 locations across New York City’s five boroughs. Twelve Citizens branches are participating in the program, aimed at expanding access to outdoor theater performances citywide and bringing free cultural programming to more neighborhoods.
Additional Brooklyn ticket distribution events for Romeo & Juliet are scheduled for June 16 at the Citizens Montague branch in Brooklyn Heights.
Later in the summer, free tickets for The Winter’s Tale will also be distributed at several Brooklyn Citizens locations. Events are scheduled for Aug. 4 at the Citizens 3rd and 92nd branch in Bay Ridge, Aug. 12 at the Park Slope branch and Aug. 20 at the Williamsburg branch.
Shakespeare in the Park has long been one of New York City’s signature summer traditions, drawing thousands of theatergoers each year to free outdoor performances. The productions are staged at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park and attract audiences from across the city each summer.
The partnership with Citizens is intended to make the performances more accessible to residents who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend live theater. Organizers said the borough-based ticket distribution events help reduce barriers by bringing tickets directly into local communities.
Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Additional ticket distribution events are expected throughout the summer across all five boroughs.
