Brooklyn’s Hip-Hop Legacy in Focus in New Photo Exhibit

Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso on Feb. 4 will host a reception for the opening of Brooklyn’s Finest: Legends in Focus, a photo installation celebrating Brooklyn’s hip-hop history and the photographers who documented it.

Curated in honor of Black History Month, the exhibition features iconic photographs capturing the artists, communities, and moments that shaped hip-hop culture in Brooklyn, including images from the historic 1998 “Greatest Day in Hip-Hop History” photoshoot; Barron Claiborne’s renowned portrait of The Notorious B.I.G., “The King of New York”; and iconic works by legendary photographer Jamel Shabazz. Also on view are portraits of Jay-Z, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Lil’ Kim, Foxy Brown, Busta Rhymes, Rakim, M.O.P., Big Daddy Kane and Fab 5 Freddy.

The evening will include a live conversation with journalists, editors and photographers who documented Brooklyn’s hip-hop movement, along with music and performances.

Registration is not required and the installation will be on view from Feb. 4 - Feb. 28.
