The Brooklyn Museum unveiled its December programming, featuring film showings and musical events designed to bring communities together and encourage learning through the arts.
Events includes the return of Joy to the Borough, the museum’s annual toy drive and giveaway, as well as a poetry workshop inspired by Monet and Venice, and a special film screening of Ernest Cole, presented alongside Seydou Keïta: A Tactile Lens.

Winter Concert: Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra

Tickets via the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music: $25 for adults, $15 for ages 18 and under; Museum admission included.
As the season turns colder, the Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra returns with performances of Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, "From the New World," and William Schuman’s New England Triptych, led by Music Director Dorothy Savitch.
Poetry Workshop: Monet and Venice

Tickets are $35 and include admission to Monet and Venice.
Author Brad Vogel leads a generative writing workshop drawing inspiration from Monet’s vision of Venice and parallels with Brooklyn’s Gowanus Canal. The session opens with remarks from Lisa Small, senior curator of European Art.
Beyond Keïta’s Frame: Ernest Cole

Tickets are $16 and includes general admission.
A film series presented with African Film Festival deepens the narrative around Seydou Keïta: A Tactile Lens. The feature, Ernest Cole: Lost and Found (Raoul Peck, 2024), follows one of South Africa’s earliest Black freelance photographers as he documented life under apartheid.
Joy to the Borough: Sixth Annual Toy Drive and Giveaway

Free and open to all.
Donations of new, unwrapped toys for children ages 0–14 are accepted at the Admissions Desk through Dec. 13. The community giveaway includes toys, clothing, coloring books and holiday treats while supplies last, along with seasonal art activities for all ages.
Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra: Shostakovich, Frank, Beethoven

Advance tickets: $25, or $20 for ages 65+; $30 at the door. Free for ages 16 and under.
The Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra, led by Artistic Director Felipe Tristán, presents a vibrant program ranging from Shostakovich’s Festive Overture to Gabriela Lena Frank’s Three Latin American Dances, closing with Beethoven’s iconic Fifth Symphony.
