Brooklyn Museum Kicks Off Jan. With Salsa Parties, Monet Tours, and Live Music

The Brooklyn Museum’s Jan. lineup offers drop-in workshops, poetry and sketch programs, stroller tours, Teen Night and a Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra pop-up performance.

The Brooklyn Museum has announced its Jan. lineup, featuring the return of its popular Salsa Party series alongside a mix of workshops, tours alongside performances designed to engage visitors of all ages. Highlights include a poetry workshop and stroller tours inspired by Monet and Venice, drop-in family artmaking programs and a pop-up performance by the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra.

Throughout the month, additional programs and special events build on the Museum’s exhibitions and collections, support visual arts learning and serve the surrounding community.

Drop-In Workshops: Life at Sea
Held Saturdays and Sundays on Jan. 3–4, 10, 17 and 31 from 11:00am to 5:30pm and Saturday–Sunday, Jan. 24–25 from 12:00 to 4:00pm, these family-friendly workshops take place in the Education Gallery on the first floor. Inspired by Oliver Jeffers: Life at Sea, participants can help expand the exhibition’s underwater world by creating colorful coral, fish and other ocean life to add to the evolving installation. Free with Museum admission.

Poetry Workshop: Monet and Venice
On Sunday, Jan. 11, from 11:00am to 1:30pm, poet Brad Vogel leads a generative writing workshop in the Schapiro Wing and Cantor Gallery on the fifth floor. The program connects Monet and Venice to Brooklyn’s Gowanus Canal and begins with an exhibition overview by Lisa Small, Senior Curator of European Art. Tickets are $35 and include Museum admission.

A Close Look (Ages 65+): Seydou Keïta
Taking place Tuesday, Jan. 13, from 11:00am to 12:30pm, this guided experience meets in the Rubin Pavilion on the first floor. Older adults are invited to explore the work of renowned Malian photographer Seydou Keïta and examine how his studio portraits reflect social and political change in mid-20th-century Bamako. Free with registration required.

Stroller Tours: Monet and Venice
Held Wednesdays, Jan. 14 and 21, from 10:00 to 11:15am in the Schapiro Wing and Cantor Gallery on the fifth floor, these stroller-friendly tours are designed for children up to 24 months old. The program features touchable objects, songs, close looking and time for caregivers to connect. Tickets are $40 per family and include general admission.

Weekend Art: Saturday Sketch Club
On Saturdays, Jan. 17 and 31, from 1:00 to 4:00pm, visitors of all ages can drop in to sketch from photographs and fashions featured in Seydou Keïta: A Tactile Lens. Sessions take place in the Schapiro Wing on the fourth floor and are free with Museum admission.

Salsa Party
The Museum’s Salsa Party series returns Thursday, Jan. 22, from 6:00 to 9:30pm in the first-floor lobby. The evening begins with a dance lesson at 6:00pm, followed by live music, social dancing and performances by local Latin dance teams. Free admission; registration is encouraged, with limited tickets available at the door.

Teen Night: A Floating Mind
Friday, Jan. 23, from 5:00 to 7:30pm, teens ages 14 to 19 are invited to the Great Hall on the first floor and the Beaux-Arts Court on the third floor for an evening focused on art, mental health and wellness. Inspired by Monet and Venice, the night includes artmaking, performances, and activities centered on relaxation, self-care and intention setting. Free with registration encouraged.

Pop-Up Performance: Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra
On Sunday, Jan. 25, from 2:00 to 4:00pm, visitors can enjoy a pop-up performance by members of the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra in the Beaux-Arts Court on the third floor. Free with Museum admission.
