The Brooklyn Football Club (BKFC) will move seven home matches to Columbia University’s Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium through the remainder of the 2024 season after the playing surface at Maimonides Park in Coney Island was deemed unplayable due to deficiencies identified during turf installation.
The move will allow BKFC to continue its inaugural season without delay, following the postponement of the Aug. 31 home opener against Carolina Ascent FC, according to a press release.
“Player safety is our top priority, and the decision to temporarily relocate our home matches to Columbia University will ensure the well-being of everyone involved,” said Daniel Hall, founding partner and chief executive officer of Club Underdog, BKFC’s parent company.
“While our heart is in Brooklyn, and we’re disappointed not to play there, we’re excited to bring our Brooklyn spirit to Manhattan and compete at the highest level.”
The club will play its first relocated match on Sept. 25 against Dallas at 7:30pm. Fans holding season tickets for Maimonides Park will receive complimentary tickets for the matches held at Columbia University.
The stadium is located at Columbia’s Baker Athletics Complex at W. 218th St. and Broadway.
