ART OF BROOKLYN returns June 1-10 for its 16th annual festival, bringing independent features, documentaries, horror films and shorts to venues across Brooklyn.

The festival opens Tuesday, June 2, at Film Noir Cinema in Greenpoint with the East Coast premiere of Dead Or Dying, a dark comedy about Los Angeles residents struggling to cope with a wave of deaths across the city. The film was co-directed by Dublin filmmakers John Purcell and Malin von Euler-Hogan, who met while performing at New York City’s Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.

This year’s feature lineup includes the U.S. premiere of the Japanese action film Traverse 2 on June 3 at the Tom Kane Theatre in Industry City. Other selections include The Flesh People, a horror-comedy about two broke New York City roommates who perform underground surgeries and secretly serve human meat to customers and Growing Up Slowly, a documentary exploring the role of play in children’s emotional and social development.

“This year’s film program underscores how important independent art is, made by humans telling human stories from diverse points of view. The talent is so impressive,” said AoBFF co-founder Anthony DeVito.

Berman’s March, a comedy-drama about a working-class drifter reconnecting with old friends during a cross-country road trip through a changing America, is also part of the lineup.

Festival venues include Film Noir Cinema and 100 Sutton in Greenpoint, the Tom Kane Theatre in Industry City and the Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

ART OF BROOKLYN closes Wednesday, June 10, at 100 Sutton with the world premiere of Regulars, a comedy-mystery set inside a Dominican-owned dive bar facing neighborhood gentrification. After patrons discover a dead body, the night turns into a chaotic whodunit in which everyone becomes a suspect.

The festival also includes curated short film programs focused on friendship, family, magical realism, documentary storytelling, thrillers and experimental filmmaking. Discounted passes and nationwide online encore screenings will be available.

Interactive schedules and tickets are available at ART OF BROOKLYN Film Festival.
